Town on the Trail of Borderland Cultures

Jewish Market

The Jewish Market brought together religious and commercial life. As in traditional borderland towns, the residential part of the house is located on the upper floor and the commercial part on the ground floor and in the arcades.

Currently, it is possible to visit, among others, Armon Hajofi “Zakątek Zdrowia i Urody”, WayaArt “Galeria Biłgorajska”, Miniature Figurine Studio “Creepytables”, Real Estate Service Office, Protego Accounting Office, Spiżarnia Roztocze, “Zen” Health and Relaxation Zone. The town square is surrounded by four frontages; northern, southern, eastern and western, which is modelled on the pre-war market in Tomaszów Lubelski.

A distinctive feature of the town’s buildings are arcades. Biłgoraj and its surroundings were once inhabited by sieve-makers, i.e. craftsmen who made sieves. To protect their house from dust, the sieve-makers planed wood outdoors under the roof – hence the distinctive buildings.
