Singer House
The Singer House is an open place for everyone, regardless of age, beliefs and life stories
In April 2016 saw the opening of the recreated home of the grandfather of Isaac Singer, a Nobel prize winner in literature, who spent his childhood in Biłgoraj. The facility serves museum and didactic functions. It hosts interesting exhibitions and displays, houses a library rich in items related to Jewish history and the office of the Biłgoraj XXI Foundation.
Singer House is a unique place. You can smell the scent of pine planks from the Biłgoraj forest, warm up in the heat emanating from a faithfully recreated clay hearth and relax with a favourite book that will take you back to a bygone era.
The Singer House is an open place for everyone, regardless of age, beliefs and life stories. We hope that each visit to the House will bring something lasting to our cultural customs, that the younger generations could learn more from the Singer House than from a textbook or history lesson. Our activities will focus on innovative ways of communicating historical information on cultural issues. We plan to organise workshops, presentations and exhibitions, including multimedia presentations of e.g. old Biłgoraj (the so-called virtual shtetl).
